Luger markings
We would like pictures, but you describe a very nice Luger. The white seen in markings on some pistols is not original; it is added by collectors to show up the markings in picures, so the absence of white is perfectly OK. The full serial number (which may be followed by a letter) is on the front of the grip frame above the trigger guard.
The "1920" is a Weimar Republic property mark. Your Luger started as a WW-I military pistol. The 2/1001 mark is a concealment code of the Ernst Thalmann organization, making these high quality milled magazines after WW-II in the Haenel plant in Suhl. This was East Germany at the time.
It is marked 1918 and 1920. What was the 1920 mark for? Second it has a different number on the rear of the main lower frame 1843 vs. 2701 on the rest of the pistol. All numbers match. The mark on your Luger doesn't follow military directives either. My best guess is a post war Weimar era mark, possibly police or para-military but not likely military.This Luger shows characteristic holster wear on the side plate and front exposed edges of the rails and end of the barrel. On the bottom of the barrel is the caliber marking done at the factory; in this case 118.35.
